The City of Martinsburg, recognized as the "fastest growing City in the State" is known as the "Gateway to the Shenandoah Valley." Located in the heart of the Eastern Panhandle, it is one of the core cities in the Hagerstown-Martinsburg, Metropolitan Area, yet offers the serenity of small town living. The city is rich in historical background, as having the first U.S. post office in 1792. During World War II, the Newton D. Baker Hospital in Martinsburg treated thousands of soldiers wounded in the war. In the center of town today, War Memorial Park hosts swimming, entertainment, fairs, and festivals throughout the year.
